La Vie en Rose
Ballet meets jazz in this modern story ballet of a young artist, Rose, whose dreams of stardom meet the realities of life as a working artist. Set to the sounds of familiar jazz and blues favorites, as well as original compositions by Mattie Levy, see how Rose learns to “make lemonade” is this hour-long show, in collaboration with the University of Michigan Arts Initiative and the Prison Creative Arts Project.

BSID Bomba Dance Workshop
Join Black Scholars in Dance (BSID) for a Saturday full of dance, featuring teaching artists Kara Roseborough (Bomba), CiCi Benn (Tutting), and KC Cook (House). All classes are free and run back-to-back.

In this workshop, Kara Roseborough will lead participants in an immersion into the energetic world of Bomba, an Afro-Puerto Rican dance form that emphasizes improvisation and individual expression. This 60-minute workshop, featuring live accompaniment, will guide you through the fundamentals of Bomba, focusing on rhythm, body movement, and personal storytelling. No prior dance experience is required—just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to explore this powerful and liberating dance style!
